And no I’m not talking about American Idol. Big news of this year has undoubtedly been the presidential campaigns and elections that will take place in November. With that comes the political minded persuasions from every angle- TV, Newspapers, Internet sites, churches, schools, and acquaintances. Everybody wants to tell other people how they should vote because they of course know more. And through only the primaries and a week of conventions, I’m sick of it!
People tend to vote or decide who they will vote for on the basis of impressions, single issues, race or gender, what other people said about the candidates, who their VP choice is, religion, but I have found what annoys me the most, is when people decide based on issues that the president actually has no real power. I think that the government should provide an outline program of what the President can do. People instead decide to vote for a person because they expect him (it’s ok to say him; Clinton is officially out) to fix a problem that they can’t fix. This will just leave people disappointed with the president when they could have known from the beginning what to expect. Then other real issues might get some weight in the election. Our president is not a king. He does have limits on his power. We have to realize this when we ask the government to fix our lives. Then we have to be willing to do work ourselves to fix our own messes. Hard work and sacrifice and two crucial elements that built this country. We cannot throw them away and expect our President to take care of those for us.
So my recommendation, or rather what I wish people would do, is to look at all issues and a candidates stance, and look at whether the president can really affect that area of U.S. life.
Will the insanity ever end?
